A little bit about our process
There is a lot involved in refinishing a wood floor. We listed a brief outline of the major steps involved in the sanding are finishing process:
Preparation
is key
Before we start sanding, we take the necessary steps to ensure a clean, efficient, and hassle-free process. We seal off rooms to contain dust, set up our equipment, and thoroughly sweep and vacuum the area.
We also inspect the floor for any protruding nails, loose boards, and take care of any necessary repairs to ensure a smooth sanding process.
Removal of the existing finish
We start by removing the existing finish – in case of refinishing – to take the floor back to the raw wood. In this step is also where we level and take out height difference between boards.
It involves a number of passes with different grits and machines.
Fine and detail sanding
In the fine sanding stage, we use a fine grid to remove previous sanding scratches and smooth the floor.
For this process we also use multiple machines, specially a planetary sander.
Staining of the floors
After finished sanded and vacuumed, we are ready to start the staining process.
In this process is where we completely change the color of the floors, with 36 stock stain colors and custom combinations, we can pretty much achieve basically any color that you want.
Applying the finish coats.
The floors are now ready to be coated.
We offer different types of finishes and sealers, and this process normally involves 3 coats.
Between the coats, the floor is lightly abraded and then vacuumed.
After the final coat is dry, your floor is finished and ready to be used!
